Window tint laws vary from state to state, so if you’re a Georgia resident, these are the 2026 window tint laws to consider before tinting your vehicle. The laws are based on vehicle type, as different rules apply for passenger vehicles, SUVs and vans, and trucks. In Georgia, the law specifies how much light must be able to pass through each window—this is known as the visible light transmission (VLT) percentage.

Visible light transmission is a measurement of how much light comes through a tinted window and is measured by percentage. VLT ranges from 5% (dark, limo tint) to 70% (nearly clear). These percentages are used to describe how dark the window tint appears on your vehicle, and Georgia law sets specific limits for each vehicle type and window.

In the state of Georgia, it is illegal to fully tint a windshield. A six-inch strip of tint (commonly referred to as a brow) at the top of the windshield is acceptable under Georgia law.

Color Restrictions: Red, blue, and amber films are illegal.

Reflectivity: Window tint must not be more than 20% reflective.
